Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong

Doc-Fai Wong was born in the Southern Chinese village of Wangshan in 1948. In 1960, when he was 11 years old, Mr. Wong immigrated with his mother to San Francisco, where he met his first Kung Fu teacher, the famed Great Grandmaster Lau Bun, the founder of the Hung Sing Kwoon of Choy Li Fut. After Lau Bun passed away in 1967, Mr. Wong opened his own school, becoming one of the first in the nation to teach Kung Fu to non-Chinese.

In 1976, Doc-Fai Wong went to Hong Kong in search of high-ranking masters to improve his martial arts knowledge. There he became the disciple of both Great Grandmaster Hu Yuen Chou and Wong Gong, two of world's highest-ranking grandmasters in Choy Li Fut Kung Fu. He studied with both teachers concurrently each summer and winter for more than twenty years. In 1987, Mr. Wong's teachers promoted him to the level of grandmaster in recognition of his exceptional skill and many achievements in the martial arts world. In 1981, he became the disciple of Professor Peng-Si Yu and Min Ou-Yang, two of China's greatest Chi Kung and Yi Quan teachers, making him one of the highest-level Chi Gung practitioners in North America.

Doc-Fai Wong is the head coach for the United States Push Hands Team, which competes periodically at the Republic of China's International Tai Chi World Cup Championship. In 1987, his team was the first and only U.S. team to win anything at this prestigious tournament, placing second only to Taiwan. The next time the tournament was held in 1990, Doc-Fai Wong's team again placed second. In October 2004, Grandmaster Wong again represented the U.S by taking a 40-person team to compete in the First World Traditional Wushu Tournament held near the Shaolin Temple in Zhengzhou, China. There the team won a total of 72 medals: 20 gold, 38 silver and 14 bronze, one of the largest medal totals for any team. In August 2006, Mr. Wong led a team 50 students, to Zhan-Jiang, China to attend the First Traditional Wushu Invitational Competition. There his team took 63 medals: 45 gold, 12 silver, and 6 bronze, the best showing for any foreign team at the event.

Doc-Fai Wong continues to maintain a strong connection to the birthplace of his martial art. In April of 2006, he raised all the funds to convert the founder's original residence in King Mui Village into a museum dedicated to the history of Choy Li Fut. He is also one of the only Choy Li Fut grandmasters in the world to possess copies of the scrolls written by the third patriarch, Chan Yiu-Chi, which describe in detail the exact sequence of all of Choy Li Fut's hand and weapon techniques.

Today, Grandmaster Wong's Plum Blossom International Federation has over 130 schools world wide, making it one of the largest Kung Fu organizations in the world. Branch schools are located throughout the USA, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Philippines. Published in all of the major national and international martial arts publications, Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong is one of the most widely known, and highly sought after kung-fu grandmasters in the world.

Master Nathan Fisher

Nathan Fisher began his martial arts training the age of 10 in Berkeley, California, where he studied Judo and Jiu-jitsu. At the age of 14, he began learning Kenpo under the late Kenpo Master Ron Lee. By age 20, he received his Kenpo black belt and was promoted to be the Chief Instructor of Mr. Lee's Berkeley headquarters school. In 1980, Mr. Fisher pursued his interest in traditional Chinese martial arts by studying Choy Li Fut and Yang style Tai Chi under the famous Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong, in San Francisco, California. 1980 also saw Mr. Fisher graduate with honors from the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a Major in Architecture.

In October of 1985, Mr. Fisher moved to La Mesa, California where he opened the first White Dragon School. Mr. Fisher's intent was to create a martial arts institution dedicated not just to the development of fighting ability but also health and self-improvement. In addition to offering a wide variety of specialized group classes, the school also offered weekly personal training to every student at no extra cost. This approach insured that even students with special learning needs could be successful learning martial arts. The White Dragon method became hugely popular. By 1991, Mr. Fisher was able to open a third school in the San Diego area, and promote two of his highest-ranking students to the level of Chief Instructor.

Aside from winning numerous first place finishes in both national and international competitions, Mr. Fisher won the International Tai Chi Push Hands Tournament in Taiwan in 1990, and the overall Push Hands Grand Championship at the prestigious Taste of China Tai Chi Tournament in 1991. Mr. Fisher has also produced several grand champion competitors in both traditional and mixed martial arts tournaments.

In 1992, the late Great Grandmaster Hu Yuen Chou, then one of the highest-ranking Choy Li Fut and Yang style Tai Chi grandmasters in the world, personally promoted Nathan Fisher to the level of Master in recognition of his efforts to further the teaching of Choy Li Fut and Tai Chi on an institutional scale. Today, with seven schools serving San Diego County and Temecula, White Dragon Schools is considered to be one of the largest combative and traditional Chinese martial arts organizations in Southern California.
